But how do you go about planning for a refurbishment?
1. Call in the Professionals
Don’t try a DIY job. It can be dangerous, time-consuming and frustrating if you don’t know what you’re doing. By hiring a professional outfit (such as VRI), you can have faith in an experienced team that will be responsible for the design and building of your new office space. A designated project manager will be able to oversee all aspects of the refurbishment and provide an experienced eye.
2. Project plan
Sit down with your PM and set out a detailed schedule and thought-out plan. Consider how far in advance certain aspects will need to be planned? What are the most efficient and productive methods? How will the coordination of contractors be managed?
3. Design Considerations
Work closely with your designers, interior designers and PM to discuss:
– Trends/styles/colours
– Image/professionalism
– Locations of staff/departments
– The size of your staff/ expansion?
– The best use of available space
– Noise and break areas
– Kitchen and eating facilities
4. Legal ties, Construction and Signing off
Be sure that you have permission from the landlord or approved planning permission to avoid any legal confrontations. Once these have been submitted and approved, your PM will then earn their money, coordinating, discussing and ordering the build. Once everything is completed be sure to have a full check of the build before signing off.
